Working to Update our School Programs
Our programs will soon better fit the new BC Curriculum objectives and include First Peoples content.
The Burnaby Teacher Focus Group comprised of Aboriginal Enhancement Teacher Meagan Innes, Head Teachers Teresa Migliuri and Juliana Cipparrone plus Museum Programming staff, Lorenda Calvert and Sanya Pleshakov met this week to continue work on rejuvenating and rewriting our school programs.
Working in partnership with several local First Nations, the goal is to create a resource for teachers that will provide an overview of Coast Salish history in Burnaby and show the importance of First Nations’ ties to Burnaby today. Work has also started to better understand the First Nations belongings in the Museum’s collection and how we might connect them to our school programs.
