Help Wanted

Two Volunteer Opportunities

High School Students

We are now taking applications for student volunteers for our spring and summer public season 2018. Volunteers in our spring and summer seasons assist in making our guests' visits more enjoyable. Dressed in 1920s costumes, volunteers are stationed in various buildings in the Village and provide basic historical information to visitors.

All interested students should sign up at www.burnaby.ca/volunteer.  All applications must be submitted on-line no later than February 9, 2018.

The intake, orientation and interview process takes place on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 9am – 12noon.

Assist Curatorial Department with Herbalist Exhibit

The Museum’s curatorial department is looking for volunteers interested in working on a project to enhance the Herbalist exhibit in the village. The project will involve helping to add information to catalogue records for the artifacts in the Herbalist and assisting with photographing artifacts.

Volunteer shifts will be on Mondays, beginning in mid-January and ending in late April. Volunteers must be able to commit to working a minimum 4 hour shift most Mondays during the project.

Volunteers interested in this work should also:

  • Be comfortable using computers
  • Be quick and accurate typists
  • Have excellent spelling and grammar

Ability to read traditional Chinese characters would be a significant asset. Experience with cataloguing in a museum, library, or archive environment would be an asset, as would interest in the history of Chinese medicine.

Training in cataloguing, artifact handling, and use of our database software will be provided. If you are interested in learning more about the project, please contact Museum Assistant Curator Jane Lemke at jane.lemke@burnaby.ca
