Volunteer Requirements

All volunteers must fit these criteria to be eligible to apply for the Burnaby Village Museum Volunteer Program:

  • Be at least 14 years of age
  • Have valid medical coverage/insurance
  • Be fluent in English
  • Be eligible to volunteer in Canada
  • Provide at least two references
  • Parental consent required for applicants under 18 years old
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of 2 years, and at least 35 hours of volunteer service  per year
  • Complete a 2.5 hour Costumed Interpretation Core Training session
  • Be physically able to navigate our 10-acre site safely on their own

Finally, all museum volunteers are expected to:

  • Treat all staff, visitors and other volunteers with respect
  • Be prompt, reliable and good communicators
  • Be willing to learn and take part in orientation and training sessions
  • Accept direction and decisions of staff
  • Abide by the Museum's policies including safety rules and regulations
