The 2015 ExperienceHuge Maple all decked out for the Season.

The holiday experience began the moment you arrived! Festive lighting and decorations greeted you at the entrance of the Village to gave you a small glimpse of the spectacular display of history and lights awaiting inside.

Thousands of lights brightened every visit:

  • the multi-coloured lights on the huge sequoia tree by the carousel,
  • the tree-wraps in the Farmhouse orchard,
  • the lacy white lights on the maple tree near Hill Street,
  • warm-white lights across the bridge
  • lights that twinkle and change colours to sound at the Bandstand
  • enchanted lit path between Elworth and the Bandstand

Back last year, was another new creative and fun menagerie of Eco-sculptures. There were leaping frogs, a sleigh parked the Vorce tram station with its unique team ready to pull on command, and a partridge in a tree of paired items. The elegant ‘dancing ladies’ were back (on the lawn of Elworth) as well as the sweater clad bears (outside Tom Irvine’s house).

A stroll through the streets of the Village uncovered wreaths, cedar swags and vintage-themed displays. At the bandstand, visitors created their own magical holiday show with new full-globe lights that twinkled and changed colours to sound.

Special entertainment was scheduled throughout the season included theatre performances, community choirs, street characters and musicians. Many family favourite activities are back including a craft for children, baking in the Farmhouse and, of course, visits with Father Christmas.

Many visitors brought their cameras and captured that special moment with Father Christmas.

A great way to see the entire site was to take on the challenge of our Twelve Days of Christmas scavenger hunt – the clues were the words to the song and the answers are sure to surprise and delight. Free scavenger hunt cards were available at the gates.

Home for the Holidays - A display of evening wear suitable for a New Year’s eve celebration was featured at Elworth, courtesy of the Canadiana Costume Society. This display featured formal wear as well as enlisted member who was “home for the holidays.”
