Description
Join Musqueam Elder Larry Grant for the launch of his new memoir Reconciling: A Lifelong Struggle to Belong with Scott Steedman.
Doors open at 3 pm. The event runs from 3:30-5 pm. A book signing with Larry and Scott will follow the discussion. Please visit Chinatown Wonders should you wish to pre-order the book. All net proceeds from book sales will go towards a multilingual children's book on Larry Grant's childhood called "Let's Take a Walk!"
Larry Grant, born in 1936 to a Musqueam mother and Chinese immigrant father, lost his Musqueam status due to a clause in the Indian Act. Reconciling: A Lifelong Struggle to Belong recounts his life, exploring reconciliation and Indigenous revival, framed by significant sites across Musqueam territory (including Burnaby and Vancouver) and themes including Chinese immigration and residential schools.
Prior to the book launch, join Larry Chin and a Museum Interpreter on a special tour of Burnaby Village Museum that accompanies the book launch.
This tour, takes place immediately ahead of the book launch, and weaves in connections to Reconciling, including Larry Grant's relations in Burnaby. Sites visited will include the Chinese Market Garden, Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee Herbalist and the Indigenous Learning House.
